Samaritans in Spain

In order to help you quickly understand our mission, and what we stand for here in Spain, the following link will take you to a copy of our new 2012 MISSION, VISION, OBJECTIVES & VALUES STATEMENT.

This site will help you find out more about Samaritans in Spain and the way we operate, what we believe, and how you can help people experiencing emotional difficulties.

Samaritans in Spain is a new organisation operated by a group of unpaid Volunteers. They are available by telephone to any English speaker in Spain, of any age, who is experiencing emotional problems of any kind.

We intend to continue to expand and develop the service, which is based very much on the established Samaritan model, which has been in operation in the UK since 1953. We are pleased to have had the support of Samaritans UK throughout the time we have worked to establish ourselves here.

The project began in September 2005 and culminated in the launch of the Costa Blanca Samaritans service in Spain in July 2008 when we opened our first Branch in Benissa, on three nights a week. This was followed by the opening of the second branch in Villamartin in January 2009. In March 2009 we increased our opening hours to five evenings a week and this was further increased in January 2010 to seven evenings a week.

We recently changed our name to Samaritans in Spain to reflect our the fact that we are now available to callers throughout Spain.

Calpé Drop-in Café

Samaritans in Spain is continuing to expand its services with the opening of the Calpé Drop-in Café every Monday from 10.00am to 12noon, where completely confidential support is offered. We are also working towards offering our service through Email and plans for this are progressing well

Prison Visiting Service

A new and exciting venture we are currently negotiating is to offer a Prison Visiting service to English-speaking prisoners in Spanish Prisons, initially in Alicante Province. It is hoped that the service will be available from the end of 2011

Samaritans in Spain is operated by Costa Blanca Samaritans which is itself registered with the Generalitat Valenciana as a 100% not-for-profit organisation under CV-01-042952-A  and with NIF G54341466.
